Introduction to the Devout Life

Francis de Sales was a Bishop of Geneva in the early seventeenth century. He was known as a preacher, evangelist and spiritual director and he founded the congregation of the Visitation of Holy Mary.

In the Preface to his Introduction to the Devout Life, he states that anyone with courage and determination can live in the world without being influenced by its spirit and he sets out to guide the reader in living a life of true devotion.

This sensitively updated edition, part of the initial trio of releases in SPCK's new Christian Classics Library, features a new introduction by Piers Paul Read, the award-winning English novelist, historian and biographer.
